The American educational system leaves nothing to be desired. The division of phases is similar to the Brazilian one, that is, it is divided into four stages:
- preschool (referring to our kindergarten);
- elementary school (referring to our elementary education);
- middle school or junior high (similar to our high school, but children start at 11/12 years old);
- high school (also similar to the Brazilian high school. It is called secondary education and is carried out between 14 and 18 years old).
The grading system is based on letters. The “A” is among the best grades, that is, above 90%, the “B” is above 80%, and so on. In addition, the school calendar is divided into quarters (in Brazil, we divide it into semesters). Thus, the school year begins in August or September (in autumn) and ends in May or June (summer).
