The Miami Design District is a creative mixed-use neighborhood in Miami where visitors can shop, dine, experience contemporary art, design and architecture, enjoy events and be inspired. Home to more than 170 retail stores, including several luxury boutiques, the neighborhood is one of the world’s greatest shopping destinations and is characterized by some of the finest architecture in the United States, including the award-winning Museum Garage.
Committed to enriching the community through cultural interventions, the Miami Design District is the perfect destination for visitors who want to enjoy a variety of design showrooms, immerse themselves in the neighborhood’s many cultural institutions and museums – which are open to the public – or explore the public art program rigorously curated and installed throughout the neighborhood. Creativity flourishes in the Miami Design District, where every building and every pathway has the potential to become a canvas for art and design.
In addition to the captivating arts program and line-up of upscale fashion boutiques, the neighborhood has also established itself as a popular dining destination, where world-renowned chefs have established themselves. There are some of the best restaurants in Miami and a wide variety of cuisines, including names like Swan, COTE, Mandolin Aegean, ZZ’s Sushi Bar, Le Jardinier and others.
Each winter, during Art Basel, the district invites a creative artist to reimagine the neighborhood’s ambience through a public installation. Woven through the main thoroughfares of the Miami Design District, the installation wraps around native trees, architecture and walkways to create a unique experience for visitors and liven up the neighborhood during its busiest season. The winners of the highly anticipated 2021 Design Commission are Enjoy The Weather and Studio Proba. In collaboration with curators Anaya Projects, the neighborhood commissioned creative studios to create this year’s installation: Tomorrow Land.
Tomorrow Land promises to bring a new level of experimental fun and excitement to the Miami Design District, transforming its pedestrian-only streets into a lively, interactive experience. Responding to a curatorial theme of “Comfort and Joy: A Call to Action,” the two studios conceived the intervention as a celebration of community and collaboration expressed through vibrant colors, shapes, and patterns. With both physical and virtual elements, the project will reimagine the district as an interactive playground through a series of sculptures, seating and ornamentation gleefully designed by Studio Proba.
A must-see destination for US citizens and tourists from around the world!
