Mount Dora was founded in 1880 and currently has around 15,000 inhabitants. It is a city that has always played the role of a tourist destination and continues to do so today.
The town is bordered by Lake Dora, home to one of Florida’s 3 freshwater lighthouses.
In the city many things bear the name “Donnelly”. John P. Donnelly was a Pittsburgh tycoon who came to Mount Dora in 1879. He helped found the city and was the first mayor of Mount Dora.
Touring Mount Dora is a delight; everything is close and it’s not tiring. Not to mention that there are several nice shops and restaurants and some nice parks even for picnics. It even ranks among the top 50 small towns in the United States.
