JPond76Great Hikes for those who love nature!
Some great easier hikes on the beautiful Maine Coast. The person who rated this terrible is probably from NYC and doesn't appreciate nature. We saw some bald eagles hiking around fresh pond. I would highly recommend and we didn't have any problems with mosquitoes.

Given our time frame, we went on a short hike on Goose Falls Trail. It was enough to wet our appetite to visit again. The lovely woods hugged the water. The trail was well maintained. One must be mindful while walking as there's as much roots as there is dirt! We were so grateful that the bugs were not bad. On our hike, we took in a few lovey views of the water. Next time around, we'll be back for a good half-day or full day of hiking, as there is so much there to explore!

This is a hidden gem! So many choices for hiking! All the trails were well marked - I so appreciate a well-marked trail. We hiked to the top of the mountain, walked down to a beach, strolled along the coastline to reversing (with the tide) waterfall - it was wonderful. Additionally, in late September, there were at best 15 other people that we saw on our journey. Beautiful, unspoiled and somewhat remote. Bring your picnic basket - there are no services beyond outhouses. I would recommend this Sanctuary to anyone visiting the area. Well worth the drive.

On 9/24/23 we brought our 32’ lobster boat with about a 5.5’ draft to the dock and parked just at low tide. I’m sharing this because we weren’t sure if we could do it, but it worked out fine and there was plenty of water. The current was pretty strong but there were pilings supporting the float dock. We hiked around most of the trails on the southern part of the island with our small children. It was very beautiful and we got good exercise. There were some brochures and maps at the historic barn (which was closed) to the north of the boat dock. There was what I thought was a pit toilet behind the barn but I didn’t check it out. We ate lunch and spent about four hours on the island. I recommend this is a nice stop with kids!

Wonderful trails in a beautiful setting. The park brochure and trail guides were helpful, and available throughout the park. We hiked many of the trails over several days, as we stayed in the area. Most trails are short, but you could connect a couple to have a longer hike. Some trails were a little overgrown, and trail markers are the same color for all trails. But overall this is an excellent park for short hikes.
