Beautiful park. Great trail options- can walk just a mile or follow other trails to make another loop. Wish they had more information signs along the historic parts of the trails. Water levels very low right now & saw one pier/boardwalk sitting in the middle of the creek (guessing a casualty of Ian). Little museum informative, disappointed with actual "fort" site. Again, wish they had more informational signs.

Enjoyed our walk and was surprised to see a deer. Lots of benches along the path. Paths are not easy to follow and the map is very vague. The fort site was disappointing because there are no remains just a plot. It would be a nice place for a picnic. Go early if you want to see an alligator in the summer.

We enjoyed seeing nature. The park was not busy on Sunday morning. We took a walk along the one trail to the suspension bridge. We then went to the kayak launch to see another part of the creek. We were only traveling through, so did not stay too long. We saw a deer when we arrived, but it quickly went into the brush. We only saw a few birds, no alligators.

We were impressed with the greeting at the gate and could park easily. The trails were not too taxing and had many benches to rest and enjoy the surroundings and read up on the history of the trading post and the fort,no longer visible but clearly marked.

The park preserves an 1895 monument of the Seminole Indian war. Paynes Creek has museum and many hiking trails. Paynes Creek flows into the Peace River, which has canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. They have a bouncy suspension bridge, a cypress forest, birds, small animals and snakes.
