The City of Miami is a city located in the US state of Florida, in the county of Miami-Dade, of which it is headquartered. It is the second most populous city in Florida, after Jacksonville, and the 44th most populous in the country. Miami is a tourist center, being one of the most visited cities by tourists in the United States, because of its year-round warm climate and its beaches.

Its origin occurred through a village created at the end of the 19th century, which prospered with the railway and the port. The city is one of the most frequented by snow birds (a term used to describe the inhabitants of the northern region of the United States, who spend the winter in the southern states, in particular Florida, to escape the snow and the cold). Tourism became an important source of income for Miami starting in the 1920s, and is currently the main source of income for the city.

Many immigrants (Cubans, Mexicans, Brazilians, Colombians, Venezuelans, Latinos in general) stay in Miami, or at least disembark from their immigrant trips through Miami, because of its proximity to Central America, and also because the city is located in the coastline, thus facilitating access to the United States via the coastline. In addition to English, Spanish is commonly spoken in the city, due to the number of Hispanic Americans (of Cuban, Puerto Rican, Mexican and other Central American origins) living in Miami. The region also has a large Jewish colony.

On the outskirts of the city is Miami International Airport, which is the second busiest airport in the state, behind Orlando International Airport.
