Starting today, Walt Disney World Resort visitors, also known as Users, will be scanned into a mysterious game world in TRON Lightcycle/Run , presented by Enterprise. As members of the Blue Team, they will board high-speed Lightcycles for a thrilling race through a dark, computerized world , facing off against a fierce group of Programs known as the Orange Team.
The new attraction, located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park, is the fastest roller coaster at a Disney theme park , along with its sister roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland. It combines rollercoaster thrills with speed, visual effects, music and a unique system to create an experience like no other.
Following the events in The Walt Disney Studios’ 2010 film “TRON Legacy,” TRON Lightcycle/Run allows guests to enter the digital world through portals that creator Kevin Flynn’s son, Sam Flynn, opened. The Magic Kingdom Park portal complements a second one, located at Shanghai Disneyland. Sam created the Lightcycle/Run competition as a “friendly” way for Users and Programs to interact in a competitive, gaming-style event.Advertising
Welcome to TRON
With its “curved wave” roof, the new attraction is a stunning addition to the Tomorrowland skyline . Lightcycle vehicles appear seemingly out of nowhere, making high-speed turns under the glittering canopy as they launch themselves across the game’s Grid. The experience is even more exciting after dark, as changing light and color patterns create a powerful visual for riders and spectators.
On the Grid
The TRON experience begins before guests board the Lightcycles. After passing beneath the attraction’s stunning canopy, guests will step into a Digitizer for another powerful preview of what to expect when they join the games. They then board the Lightcycles in the Sync Chamber and prepare for upload.
Launching onto the Grid is an unforgettable experience for Users , as their powerful Lightcycles move gracefully under the attraction’s imposing canopy and enter a mysterious world of play of light, sound and speed. The mission: Race through eight Energy Portals to defeat the menacing group of Programs known as Team Orange.
Get Ready for the Grid
To prepare for uploading to the Grid, guests will place suitcases, purses, hats and other items in lockers that are opened and locked using a regular Disney wristband, latest generation Disney wristband or ticket. Smaller items, such as cell phones, glasses or wallets, can be placed in a small compartment located on each Lightcycle. After the race, guests will return to the real world and retrieve their belongings.
In parallel, with Disney PhotoPass, Users have countless ways to remember their experiences on the Grid with special photo and video effects, including Magic Shots.
